대한민국 방위는 한미 양국 국민 모두에게 중요합니다. 한미연합사는 대한민국 방위를 책임지는 사령부로서 훈련을 통해 북한의 실질적인 위협에 대비할 수 있어야 합니다.

The defense of the Republic of Korea is of vital importance to the Korean and American people. As the command responsible for the defense of Korea, the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command (CFC) must train to be ready against a real threat from North Korea.

한미동맹재단과 주한미군전우회는 한미연합사의 자유의 방패 연합연습과 전사의 방패 연합 야외 기동훈련을 전폭적으로 지지합니다. 군사 훈련은 군이 임무를 수행하기 위한 정상적이고 필수적이며 대체불가한 요소입니다. 이번 자유의 방패 지휘소 연습은 한국군, 주한미군, 연합사 및 예하 구성군사, 유엔사를 포함하여 다양하게 편성된 부대들의 작전 수행 능력과 협조 절차를 통합했습니다.

The Korea Defense Veterans Association and the Korea-US Alliance Foundation fully support CFC’s Exercise Freedom Shield and Warrior Shield Field Training Exercise (FTX). Military training is a normal, essential, and irreplaceable part of any military’s ability to carry out its mission. This Freedom Shield command post exercise integrated the operational practices and coordination of a diverse and unified group that included the ROK Military, U.S. Forces Korea (USFK), CFC and its subordinate component commands, and United Nations Command (UNC).

The Warrior Shield FTX complemented the Freedom Shield exercise with field training to “further enhance the ROK and U.S. militaries’ cooperation through air, land, sea, space, cyber and special operations, and improve upon tactics, techniques and procedures” (from CFC’s press statement at http://www.usfk.mil/Media/Press-Products/Press-Releases/Article/3317645/freedom-shield-23-set-to- begin/).

Since many members of KUSAF and KDVA have participated in exercises in Korea, we understand the very high level of equipment and training that occurs in Korea. Millions of Americans and Koreans – many of whom are KDVA members – reflect fondly of their experiences in Korea training on the same ground that the Korean War was fought in 1950-1953. KDVA members have recounted their personal stories about the realistic training against a real threat across the DMZ – they are available in the KDVA Digital Library (https://kdva.vet/digital-library/).

한미동맹재단과 주한미군전우회는 대한민국 윤석열 대통령과 일본 후미오 기시다 총리가 발표한 한일 군사정보 보호협정인 GSOMIA 의 정상화 결정을 환영하고 지지한다. 윤석열 대통령과 기시다 총리는 북한의 핵·미사일 개발이 한반도와 동북아, 전 세계의 평화를 위협한다는 데 의견을 같이하고 지속적으로 고도화되고 있는 북한의 핵·미사일 위협에 대응하기 위한 한미일 3 국 및 한일 양국의 적극적인 협력의 중요성을 강조하였다.

The Korea-US Alliance Foundation (KUSAF) and Korea Defense Veterans Association (KDVA) are very supportive of the recent announcement that ROK President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida agreed to normalize their mutual military intelligence-sharing pact called the General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA). ROK President Yoon stated, “Prime Minister Kishida and I agreed that North Korea’s nuclear and missile development threatens peace on the Korean Peninsula, in Northeast Asia and in the world. We also agreed that in order to respond to the North’s nuclear and missile threats that are getting more sophisticated by the day, cooperation among South Korea, the United States and Japan, and between South Korea and Japan, is extremely important, and that we should continue to actively cooperate.”

한미동맹재단과 주한미군전우회는 GSOMIA 정상화가 한일 양국의 민감한 군사정보 교환을 촉진시킴으로써, 지역 안보를 보장하는 중요하고 긍정적인 조치가 될 것임을 확신한다. 우리는 참전용사들과 복무장병들이 싸우고 지켜온 한미동맹과 지역의 안정을 염려하는 단체로서 한일 양국 지도자의 결정을 환영하며 지지한다.

KDVA and KUSAF believe this is an important and positive step toward supporting regional security by facilitating the exchange of sensitive military information for both countries. As organizations that care deeply about the ROK-U.S. Alliance and the stability of the region that our Veterans have fought for and continue to defend, we applaud and support actions like this one taken by the leaders of South Korea and Japan.

The Korea Defense Veterans Association (KDVA), a nonprofit organization based in northern Virginia, is looking for an experienced, reliable, and task-oriented Programs & Admin Assistant (PAA). This is a part-time, remote position and the candidate must live in the DC Metro area. The PAA will be responsible for assisting with the numerous KDVA Programs such as events, chapter, and membership support. In addition, the PAA will assist in the operations and administrative tasks to help manage the further growth of KDVA. KDVA’s mission is to enhance the Republic of Korea – United States Alliance by advocating for the Alliance and supporting the people who built and serve the Alliance.

Main Duties and Responsibilities.

Programs Support

Event Support – Hands on support on-site to include but not limited to setting up/breaking down venue, AV coordination, and other support functions to ensure event runs smoothly.
Research vendors, caterers, venues – conduct initial research and provide most viable and cost-conscious options.

Assist in signing people up as KDVA Members at events.

Membership Support – Assist in membership coordination.

Work with KDVA’s member portal system.
Assist in membership activities (i.e., membership drives, incentive programs, inquiries from members, etc.)

Research/Coordinate/assist in managing vendors for merchandise, language/translation, printing companies, business cards, KDVA pins, etc.
Assist in responding to volunteer emails; manage and maintain volunteer spreadsheet to keep track of volunteers and where they are located.
Draft communications to include but not limited to Thank You letters, annual letters to donors, partners, and supporters.
- Assist in addressing, printing, stuffing envelopes, and mailing out annual letters.
Chapter Support – make sure they have up to date KDVA materials.
- Update and maintain spreadsheet with POC and locations for new chapter interest.
Update and maintain KDVA contact spreadsheet for Partners, Donors, and other contacts from events, business cards from meetings/events, etc.
Assist in keeping schedule for monthly/quarterly calls with partners, chapters, interns, etc.
Update and maintain Korean War/Korea Defense Veterans family stories and contact information.

Administrative –

Maintain an organized filing system of paper and electronic documents to include our board management system.
Assist the management of tasks and deadlines for HQ staff; be a second set of eyes to provide reminders and follow-up to ensure deadlines are met including but not limited to monthly finance and accounting calendar.
With guidance from VP of Program and Leadership Support, reach out to accounting firm, Payroll firm, and/or bank with any issues if needed.
Assist in scheduling meetings, appointments, key leader engagements, etc.
Assist with travel arrangements, if needed.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Take on special projects.

Required Skills.

2-3 years minimum experience as an Admin Assistant reporting to senior leaders.
Have a support mindset: Understand the work expectations of the KDVA Staff and be committed to making their work more effective.
Excellent communication: Have clear, concise, and professional written and verbal communication skills.
Initiative and motivation: Be a self-starter; highly responsive with excellent follow-through and follow-up; and work independently. Be resourceful and adapt to changing priorities.
Team-minded: Be friendly, professional, and respectful in working with outside organizations.
Strong technology competency: MS Suite, virtual meeting/conference software, etc.
Have your own reliable computer with web camera and antivirus software, high-speed wireless internet, and smart phone.

Preferred Skills and Experiences.

Interest in Korea, Veterans, and their Families.
Work experience with non-profit organizations preferred.
Accounting skills would be a plus.
Worked or lived in South Korea is desirable but not required.
A bachelor’s degree is great but not required.
Korean speaker is a plus.
Department of Defense or Military spouses are encouraged to apply.

Work Hours.

Core business hours, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday-Friday, but there is some flexibility with the work hours.
Be available to support KDVA’s events and meetings on-site in the Washington, DC area that take place outside of the workplace such as events, banquets, and conferences.

Location Requirement.

Must reside in the Washington, DC metro area – there is no relocation expense.

Compensation Range.

The total compensation is $30,000.
Fifteen vacation days.
KDVA observes all U.S. federal holidays.
No overtime; compensation time as needed.

I would like to share some thoughts with you on my first day of leading KDVA. Foremost, I am grateful for the opportunity to continue working for the American and Korean Veterans who selflessly served in Korea to secure a better life for Koreans and Americans.

주한미군전우회를 이끄는 첫 날을 맞이해 여러분과 저의 몇 가지 생각을 나누고 싶습니다. 먼저, 한국에서 한국인들과 미국인들의 더 나은 삶을 위해 이타적으로 복무한 미국과 한국 참전용사들을 위해 계속 일할 수 있는 기회가 주어진 것에 감사드립니다.

As a Soldier for over 41 years working with Service Members and Veterans around the world, I have found that people in uniform don’t fully realize the impact they have in the lives of their fellow comrades, their units, their communities, and their country. They influence lives for good, and their humility is respected and admired.

세계 각지에서 전우들 및 참전 용사들과 함께 군인으로 41 년 넘게 복무하면서, 저는 군인들이 그들의 동료들, 소속부대, 지역 사회와 그들의 국가에 미치는 영향을 충분히 이해하지 못하는 것을 발견했습니다. 이들의 영향은 결코 잊혀지지 않으며, 이들이 보여주었던 겸허한 자세는 많은 이들의 존경과 칭송을 자아냈습니다.

While serving in Korea as the Commander of the United Nations Command, ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command, and U.S. Forces Korea, I experienced the power of the ROK-U.S. Alliance and marveled at the strong and caring nature of the Korean people. Despite living under a constant state of Armistice with a real threat from North Korea just across the De-militarized Zone (or DMZ), Koreans are confident and positive. It is a unique perspective of a people and military that must be vigilant at all times. I am very proud to have served with my American and Korean colleagues and partners to ensure peace and stability on the Peninsula.

한국에서 복무하면서 저는 한미동맹의 힘을 경험했고, 한국인들이 가진 강인하면서도 친절한 기질에 감탄했습니다. 비무장지대(DMZ) 바로 건너편에 있는 북한의 실질적인 위협과 끝없는 휴전 상태에서 살고 있음에도 불구하고 한국인들은 자신감이 넘치고 긍정적입니다. 항시 경계태세를 갖처야하는 군에 있어, 한국인들의 이런 점은 특기할만한 부분입니다. 저는 한반도의 평화와 안정 보장을 위해 미국과 한국의 동료들과 함께 복무했던 것을 매우 자랑스럽게 느낍니다.

So that I can learn about you and KDVA better and then help chart a better path forward, I am conducting a 60 Day Review from February 1 to March 31, 2023. Members and Friends of the Korea Defense Veterans Association,

주한미군전우회 회원 여러분,

On October 1, 2020, the leadership of the Korea Defense Veterans Association (KDVA) transitioned into my hands as Chair and President. On February 1, 2023, the responsibility for leading the Association will transition once again as I complete my time in this role. 2023 will be a significant milestone year for the Korea-U.S. Alliance with many events to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the signing of the Armistice Agreement and the signing of the U.S.-ROK Mutual Defense Treaty. We will begin this important anniversary year with the third transition of leadership for the KDVA as I pass the roles of Chair and President to my friend of many decades and my predecessor in command in Korea, General (U.S. Army, Retired) Curtis “Mike” Scaparrotti.

저는 2020 년 10 월 1 일, 주한미군전우회(KDVA) 이사장 및 회장직을 위임받았습니다. 그리고 2023 년 2 월 1 일, 제 임기가 끝나면서 제가 그간 맡아 수행하던 역할을 다시금 저의 임무를 이양하게 되었습니다. 2023 년은 한미동맹에 있어 중요한 이정표가 되는 해로, 정전협정 체결 및 한미상호방위조약 체결 70 주년을 기념하는 다양한 행사가 예정되어 있습니다. 올해 첫 시작을 알리며 주한미군전우회의 세 번째 지휘부 인사변경 소식을 전하게 되었습니다. 저는 수십 년 동안 저의 친구이자 전임자였던 커티스 “마이크” 스캐퍼로티 장군에게 의장과 회장의 역할을 물려주게 됩니다.

General Scaparrotti is well-known and fondly remembered within the Alliance. He brings his deep experiences in Alliance leadership into this position. His calm and steady-handed approach will be a very valuable asset to KDVA. Please welcome him with your strong personal support to continue making KDVA a growing success. I extend my sincere congratulations to him and my appreciation for his acceptance of this position. He will, without doubt, lead KDVA to new heights of success.

Departing, I reflect on the four guiding priorities communicated by me on October 1, 2022:

제 자리를 떠나면서, 2022년 10월 1일 제가 내걸었던 4가지 운영상 우선순위를 다시 회상해볼까 합니다.

Enhance, advocate for, and educate about the ROK-U.S. Alliance which is an essential part of each nation’s security and prosperity, through forums, social media, newsletters, research, and events. 한미 양국의 안보와 번영에 있어 핵심축인 한미동맹의 강화, 지지하고 교육을 위한 포럼,SNS, 뉴스레터, 연구조사, 행사 추진 사업

Recognize and support service members, government civilians, and their families who haveor are serving in the ROK-U.S. Alliance. 한국 및 미국 군과 정부를 위해 복무한 군인, 공무원 및 군무원, 그리고 가족들의 공로 인정 및 지원
Serve its members with professional networking, mentoring, volunteering, and researching opportunities.주한미군전우회 회원들을 위한 네트워킹, 멘토링, 자원봉사, 연구조사 기회 제공
Honor and support the veterans who defended South Korea during the Korean War.한국전쟁에서 한국 수호를 위해 헌신한 참전용사들에 대한 예우 및 지원

With great satisfaction, I will say that these priorities kept our mission focused. We grew our membership by 219%. We expanded our followers and outreach by several hundred percent. We grew our partnerships with thought-leadership and academic institutions as well as veterans support organizations to the point where we now have 25 partner organizations in four countries, making KDVA an influential voice and convener among them. We built on the success of the Korea Chapter of KDVA to activate in the U.S., a Hawaii Chapter and a Georgia Chapter. We held our first KDVA Reunion of our members. And we successfully added Korea Defense Veterans to the Revisit Korea Program hosted by the South Korean government. And we helped in keeping the Korea-U.S. Alliance visible and strong.

돌이켜 볼 때, 이러한 우선순위가 있었기 때문에 주한미군전우회가 임무에 집중할 수 있었다고 생각하며, 결과에 만족합니다. 전우회의 멤버십은 219% 성장했습니다. 팔로워 수와 전우회의 활동범위 또한 수백 퍼센트나 늘었습니다. 전우회는 각 분야의 리더들 및 학술 기관과의 협력관계를 체결 및 성장시켰고, 현재 4 개국에 25 개의 재향군인 지원조직들과 함께 협력관계를 유지하고 있습니다. 주한미군전우회는 이들 사이에서 많은 영향력을 갖고, 주최하는 역할을 맡게 되었습니다. 주한미군전우회의 한국지부의 성공에 힘입어, 미국 하와이지부, 조지아 지부의 성공 또한 달성했습니다. 또한, 주한미군전우회 회원들간의 첫 번째 리유니언 행사를 개최했습니다. 그리고, 한국 정부에서 주최하는 주한미군 제대군인 재방한 프로그램이 추가되었습니다. 마지막으로, 굳건한 한미동맹이 유지되고 더 널리 알려지도록 기여했습니다.

None of these accomplishments would have been achieved without the outstanding support KDVA received. First, thanks go to the Korea-US Alliance Foundation (KUSAF) for their unwavering budgetary support through their fundraising efforts, their hosting of events in Korea, and their advocacy on KDVA’s behalf with the South Korean government Ministries of National Defense, Foreign Affairs, and Patriots and Veterans Affairs. Further thanks go to the KDVA Board of Directors and Advisory Councils. Each member of these groups is a volunteer who has a dedication to the Alliance and to our Veterans of the Alliance. Thank you for stepping forward to help in leading this organization. Thanks also to the KDVA Chapters in Korea, Hawaii, and Georgia who literally putting KDVA “on the map” and connecting us with Korea Defense Veterans and supporters in geographical regions. Even greater things will come from these chapters and new ones that are added in coming years. Let me also express deep appreciation for those who make everything happen behind the scenes for KDVA daily. To be good stewards, we have only two full-time employees – Colonel (Retired) Steve Lee and Ms. Earlene Hollerith. The amount of work they do is truly remarkable, and I thank them for their hard work and the volunteers, interns, and contractors they guide in accomplishing our mission. Finally, I want to thank our donors, followers, and especially our members for believing in what we have undertaken at KDVA. We seek continued growth to reach the 3.3 million Korea Defense Veterans, and we are just getting started, but we will need your support to do it. Please spread the word and bring others like you to join us in our mission.

이러한 성과 중 그 어느 것도 주한미군전우회에 제공된 지원 없이는 달성되지 못했을 것입니다. 먼저 한미동맹재단(KUSAF)이 모금 활동과 한국에서의 행사 개최, 그리고 대한민국 국방부, 외교부, 국가보훈처 등 한국 정부와 함께 주한미군전우회를 후원하는 등 변함없는 예산 지원을 해주신 것에 감사드립니다. 또한, 주한미군전우회 이사회 및 자문 위원회에도 감사드립니다. 이사회와 자문위원회의 모든 일원들은 한미동맹과 한미 제대군인들을 위해 헌신하는 마음을 간직한 자원봉사자들입니다. 주한미군전우회를 이끄는 데 앞장서 도와주셔서 감사합니다. 다음으로, 주한미군전우회가 전 세계 각지에서 활동하고, 지리적으로 주한미군 제대군인 및 지지자들을 연결해 준 한국, 하와이, 조지아 지부에도 감사드립니다. 이 지부들을 포함해 앞으로 생길 새로운 지부들에서 더 많은 발전이 나올 것을 예상합니다. 주한미군전우회를 위해 언제나 무대 뒷편에서 모든 걸 조율하고 최선을 다해온 분들께도 깊은 감사를 표합니다. 주한미군전우회의 정직원은 단 두 명입니다. 스티브 리 Steve Lee 대령(예)과 얼린 홀러리스 Earlene Hollerith 씨입니다. 이 둘은 압도적인 업무량을 언제나 소화하고 있습니다. 또한, 이들의 노고와 전우회의 사명을 달성하는 것에 큰 도움을 주신 자원봉사자, 인턴, 직원들에게 감사드립니다. 마지막으로 주한미군전우회의 활동에 믿음을 보여주신 후원자들, 팔로워들, 특히 회원들에게 감사드립니다. 전우회는 330 만 주한미군 제대군인들을 위해 성장을 계속할 것이며, 앞으로 갈 길이 멀고, 이를 위해서는 여러분의 도움이 필요합니다. 주한미군전우회에 대해 널리 홍보해주시길 부탁드리며, 여러분처럼 저희의 임무에 동참할 분들을 모아주시길 당부드립니다.

In closing, allow me to repeat words I shared when inaugurated into this position. Enhancing the ROK-U.S. Alliance requires our worthy attention and our supportive efforts, in educating and in advocating. As a team that “goes together,” from the numerous challenges of the past, and into the unknowns of the future, the Alliance reflects the commitment of our Veterans over many generations. We owe it to them to help make the Alliance even better. I know I can count on you to help me in this effort!

The Korea Defense Veterans Association will transition several senior Board members on February 1, 2023.

2023년 2월 1일부로 주한미군전우회 이사회의 인사 변경이 예정되어 있어 전파합니다.

The current KDVA Chairman and President, General (Ret.) Vincent Brooks, will be replaced by General (Ret.) Curtis Scaparrotti. Both Generals are former Commanders of the United Nations Command, ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command, and U.S. Forces Korea. 주한미군전우회 회장 및 이사장 빈센트 브룩스 대장(예)이 직위를 커티스 스캐퍼로티 대장(예)에 이임할 예정입니다. 두 장군 모두 전 연합사, 한미연합사, 주한미군사 사령관을 역임했습니다.

The current U.S. Vice Chairman, General (Ret.) Scaparrotti, will be replaced by General (Ret.) Robert “Abe” Abrams. The current ROK Vice Chairman, General Leem, Ho-Young, will be replaced by Major General (Ret.) Lee, Seo Young. General Leem is a former Deputy Commander of the Combined Forces Command. Maj. Gen. Lee is a former ROK Defense Attaché to the United States.

“Most of KDVA’s work is done by volunteers, and these senior leaders exemplify and are role models for true selfless service,” said Colonel (Ret.) Steve Lee, KDVA Senior Vice President. “Generals Brooks, Jung, Leem, and Scaparrotti have led the Association to unprecedented growth over the past two years. KDVA membership grew by over 219% under General Brooks’ leadership so that more people can join KDVA to support the ROK-U.S. Alliance and our Veterans. With this significant changing of the guard and the great trajectory that our leaders have put KDVA on, I am excited for KDVA’s future, especially as we embark on our journey in 2023 for the 70th anniversary of the ROK-U.S. Alliance. On behalf of thousands of KDVA members, I would like to sincerely thank General Brooks for all his time and energy in passionately leading us in bringing Americans and Koreans closer together.”

Gen. (Ret.) Vincent Brooks will join the KDVA Council of Advisors where he will continue to support Korea Defense Veterans and the Korea-U.S. Alliance.

빈센트 브룩스 대장(예)은 주한미군전우회 자문위원회에 참여해, 앞으로도 주한미군 제대군인들과 한미동맹을 지원 및 지지하실 계획입니다.

Gen. (Ret.) Jung, Seung Jo will continue in his current position as the President of the Korea-US Alliance Foundation which is KDVA’s closest partner and main fund raiser in Korea. He will join the KDVA Council of Advisors.

Gen. (Ret.) Leem, Ho-Young will continue serving as the President of the Korea Association of Military Studies which is an important voice for military and security topics in Korea.

The Korea Defense Veterans Association (KDVA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce changes to the Board of Directors. Joining the Board are Gen. (Ret.) Robert Abrams, U.S. Army; Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Lee, Keon Wan, Republic of Korea Air Force; and Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Pyo, Se Woo, Republic of Korea Army.

주한미군 전우회(KDVA) 이사회는 이사회의 변동사항 소식을 기쁜 마음으로 전합니다. 로버트 에이브럼스 미 육군 대장 (예), 이건완 대한민국 공군 중장(예)과 표세우 대한민국 육군 소장(예)이 이사회에 새롭게 합류하였습니다.

Gen. Abrams is the most recent former Commander of the United Nations Command, ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command, and U.S. Forces Korea. As a four-star General for over six years, General Abrams served as the 22d Commander of U.S. Army Forces Command, the Army’s largest formation comprised of over 229,000 active-duty Soldiers, and provided training and readiness oversight of the U.S. Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve. He commanded at every level from Company through Theater level, and led units in combat operations in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Happily married, he and his wife are proud parents of two children, and grandparents to two grandchildren. He is a functional fitness enthusiast who also enjoys golf and follows college basketball closely.

에이브럼스 대장은 가장 최근에 유엔사령부, 한미연합사령부와 주한미군사령부의 사령관으로 지냈습니다. 6년이 넘는 기간동안 4성 장군으로서 미 육군의 최대조직인 미 육군 전력사령부의 22대 사령관으로서 22만9000명 이상의 현역 장병들을 이끌었으며, 미 육군 주방위군과 예비군의 훈련과 전투태세를 관리 및 감독했습니다. 에이브럼스 대장은 중대급부터 전구단위까지 각급 제대에서 지휘관으로 통솔한 경험이 있으며, 사우디아라비아, 쿠웨이트, 이라크 및 아프가니스탄에서 전투작전을 지휘했습니다. 금슬좋은 부부생활 가운데 두 자녀들의 자랑스러운 아버지이자 두 증손자분들의 조부이기도 합니다. 에이브럼스 대장은 기능성운동과 골프 애호가이며, 대학농구 시청을 즐기고 있습니다.

Lt. Gen. Lee previously served as the Commander of the Air Force Operations Command and contributed to strengthening the ROK-U.S. Alliance through various exchanges and

cooperation. During a 30+ year career as a combat pilot, he operated various aerospace weapons systems and played a key role in the establishment of the first KF-16 battalion and its pilot training. General Lee has a strong policy and strategy background from various policy-related positions in the ROK Air Force Headquarters, ROK Ministry of National Defense, and ROK Joint Chiefs of Staff. As Principal of the ROK Air Force Academy, he introduced the PBL (Project Based Learning) education method into the curriculum, enabling significant improvements.

이건완 중장은 대한민국 공군작전사령부에서 재직하는 동안 한미동맹 강화에 각종 연합 교류행사 및 경험, 그리고 협력을 통해 크게 기여했습니다. 30년이 넘는 군생활동안 전투기 조종사로서 다양한 항공무기체계를 운용했으며 KF-16 전투비행대대의 최초 설립과 해당 기체의 조종사 훈련을 확립하는데 핵심적인 역할을 수행했습니다. 이건완 중장은 대한민국 공군본부, 국방부와 합참본부의 다양한 정책관련직위를 맡은 경험을 통해 국가정책전략의 기틀을 닦았습니다. 또한, 대한민국 공군사관학교의 교장으로서 교육과정에 프로젝트 기반학습법을 도입했으며, 중대한 개선사항들을 이끌어 냈습니다.

Maj. Gen. Pyo in his final assignment served as the ROK Defense Attaché to the USA and helped coordinate defense actions between the two strong allies. General Pyo is a very experienced Alliance leader having worked many years on ROK and U.S. topics in the ROK Joint Chiefs of Staff, Combined Forces Command, and ROK Embassy in Washington, DC. After retiring from the ROK Army, he served on ROK President Yoon’s transition team. He is one of the first Korea Military Academy cadets to graduate from the U.S. Military Academy. He and his wife have two sons.

표세우 소장은 주미대한민국대사관의 국방무관으로서 마지막 임무를 수행하셨으며 굳건한 한미동맹을 위한 국방정책들을 조율했습니다. 표세우 소장은 한국 합참본부, 한미연합사령부, 워싱턴DC의 주미 한국 대사관에서 양국에 관련된 주제들을 다룬 경험을 갖춘 유능한 지휘관입니다. 대한민국 육군에서 전역한 이후 표 소장은 대한민국 윤석열 대통령 인수위원회에서도 활동했습니다. 또한, 대한민국 육군사관학교의 생도로서 최초로 미 육군 사관학교를 졸업했습니다. 소장님과 사모님께서는 슬하에 두명의 자녀를 두고 있습니다.

KDVA Chairman and President, Gen. (Ret.) Vincent K. Brooks, commented on the changes to the Board saying, “KDVA continues to grow rapidly and as we enter our sixth year, it is time to refresh the Board of Directors as well. The additions of Generals Abrams, Lee, and Pyo will bring fresh perspectives to guide us to the next level of supporting those Veterans of both countries who served shoulder-to-shoulder in defending the Republic of Korea and forging the ROK-U.S. Alliance.”

주한미군 전우회 이사장 및 회장이신 빈센트 K. 브룩스 대장(예)은 “주한미군 전우회가 매우 빠른 성장을 거듭하고 있으며, 설립 6년차로 접어들면서 이사회 또한 재편성할 시기라고 판단했다”고 언급했습니다. 에이브럼스 대장, 이건완 중장, 표세우 소장의 합류를 통해 주한미군 전우회가 어깨를 맞대고 대한민국 수호와 한미동맹 강화를 위해 헌신한 한미양국의 재향군인들을 지원하기 위한 다음단계로 나아가는데 있어서, 새로운 비전을 제공할 것이라 믿습니다.

“I am grateful for this opportunity to continue serving the ROK-U.S. Alliance and our Veterans,” said Gen. (Ret.) Robert “Abe” Abrams. “KDVA has a noble mission to recognize the contributions of all Veterans who served in Korea … because it is their service that changed history for the Korean people and made America a better country. I am looking forward to helping KDVA reach and harness the power of the millions of American and Korean Veterans who served in Korea.”

Lt. Gen. Lee, Keun Wan said, “I want to thank General Brooks and the KDVA Board of Directors for their warm welcome. I’ve always respected General Brooks and KDVA for their commitment to the development of Korea’s defense and the ROK-U.S. Alliance. I am honored to participate in the valuable work together in working with good friends for the strengthening of the ROK-U.S. Alliance and supporting our Veterans in Korea and the United States.”

이근완 중장은“Brooks 장군과 KDVA 이사회의 따뜻한 환영에 감사드립니다. 저는 항상 Brooks 장군과 KDVA가 한국의 국방과 한미동맹의 발전을 위해 헌신한 것을 항상 존경해왔습니다. 한미동맹 강화와 한국과 미국의 참전용사들을 지원하기 위해 좋은 동료들과 함께 일할 수 있는 귀중한 일에 참여하게 되어 영광입니다” 라고 말했다.

Maj. Gen. Pyo stated, “It will be my great honor to continue serving the ROK-U.S. Alliance, even after retirement, as a KDVA Board member. I believe that there is nothing better than honoring and supporting those who served and are serving the ROK-U.S. Alliance that has laid an irreplaceable foundation for the peace and prosperity of our great nations. It is my lifetime mission! I am looking forward to working closely with Korean and American colleagues and friends to pursue the mission of the KDVA, ‘Together for the ROK-US Alliance’.”

The Korea Defense Veterans Association (KDVA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the activation of a Senior Enlisted Council (SEC) on December 14, 2022, to communicate to the Board of Directors on behalf of the largest group of Korea Defense Veterans – those who served in the enlisted ranks of the United States and the Republic of Korea.

주한미군 전우회(KDVA)는 2022년 12월 14일 주한미군으로 복무한 부사관들의 의견과 입장을 이사회에 전달하기 위해 선임 부사관 자문위원회를 창설했습니다. 이를 통해 주한미군 전우회의 가장 큰 비중을 차지하는 부사관들의 목소리를 이사회에 보다 쉽게 전달할 수 있게 되었습니다.

The Council will be chaired by Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Steven Payton, U.S. Army, who is also on the KDVA Board of Directors. Before retiring from the U.S. Army, Payton served as the Senior Enlisted Leader in Korea for the United Nations Command / ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command / U.S. Forces Korea. Joining him are five other distinguished senior enlisted Korea Defense Veterans:

Command Sergeant Major Julie Guerra, U.S. Army, a former Command Sergeant Major of the Korea-based and focused 501st Military Intelligence Brigade. CSM Guerra will join the KDVA Senior Enlisted Council after her retirement from the U.S. Army. She currently serves as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Intelligence.

미 육군 줄리 게라 주임원사, 대한민국 주둔 미 육군 501 군사정보여단 전임 주임원사

게라 주임원사는 전역을 마치는대로 전우회 선임자문위원회에 합류할 예정입니다. 게라주임원사는 현재 미 육군 군사정보 부참모부장의 선임부사관 고문으로 복무중입니다.

General (Ret.) Vincent K. Brooks, Chairman and President of KDVA said, “This Council, comprised of some of the most accomplished Enlisted men and women who have served in Korea, will give the Board clearer insights into what is needed to support the membership of the Korea Defense Veterans Association with programs, education, support, communication, and family support. They reflect the best and brightest members of our population of Veterans, and we are grateful for their willingness to serve in this capacity.”

주한미군 전우회 이사장 및 회장 빈센트 K. 브룩스 대장(예)은 “주한미군 및 한국군 중 가장 뛰어난 부사관 출신 인사들로 구성된 이번 위원회는 주한미군 전우회의 다양한 활동들을 위해 필요한 것들이 무엇인지에 대해 더 확실한 통찰력을 제공할 것입니다. 그들은 우리 회원들 중에서 가장 뛰어나고 유능한 인재들을 대표합니다. 우리는 그들이 기꺼이 이 자문위원회를 위해 근무하려는 의지에 감사를 표합니다”라고 언급했습니다.

KDVA is very excited about this initial group of senior enlisted leaders, and we look forward to adding other members of all services from both the ROK and U.S. militaries.
