주한미군 전우회 이사회 변동 소식

The Korea Defense Veterans Association (KDVA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce changes to the Board of Directors.  Joining the Board are Gen. (Ret.) Robert Abrams, U.S. Army; Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Lee, Keon Wan, Republic of Korea Air Force; and Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Pyo, Se Woo, Republic of Korea Army.

주한미군 전우회(KDVA) 이사회는 이사회의 변동사항 소식을 기쁜 마음으로 전합니다. 로버트 에이브럼스 미 육군 대장 (예), 이건완 대한민국 공군 중장(예)과 표세우 대한민국 육군 소장(예)이 이사회에 새롭게 합류하였습니다.

Gen. Abrams is the most recent former Commander of the United Nations Command, ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command, and U.S. Forces Korea.  As a four-star General for over six years, General Abrams served as the 22d Commander of U.S. Army Forces Command, the Army’s largest formation comprised of over 229,000 active-duty Soldiers, and provided training and readiness oversight of the U.S. Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve. He commanded at every level from Company through Theater level, and led units in combat operations in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Happily married, he and his wife are proud parents of two children, and grandparents to two grandchildren. He is a functional fitness enthusiast who also enjoys golf and follows college basketball closely.

에이브럼스 대장은 가장 최근에 유엔사령부, 한미연합사령부와 주한미군사령부의 사령관으로 지냈습니다. 6년이 넘는 기간동안 4성 장군으로서 미 육군의 최대조직인 미 육군 전력사령부의 22대 사령관으로서 22만9000명 이상의 현역 장병들을 이끌었으며, 미 육군 주방위군과 예비군의 훈련과 전투태세를 관리 및 감독했습니다. 에이브럼스 대장은 중대급부터 전구단위까지 각급 제대에서 지휘관으로 통솔한 경험이 있으며, 사우디아라비아, 쿠웨이트, 이라크 및 아프가니스탄에서 전투작전을 지휘했습니다. 금슬좋은 부부생활 가운데 두 자녀들의 자랑스러운 아버지이자 두 증손자분들의 조부이기도 합니다. 에이브럼스 대장은 기능성운동과 골프 애호가이며, 대학농구 시청을 즐기고 있습니다.

Lt. Gen. Lee previously served as the Commander of the Air Force Operations Command and contributed to strengthening the ROK-U.S. Alliance through various exchanges and

cooperation.  During a 30+ year career as a combat pilot, he operated various aerospace weapons systems and played a key role in the establishment of the first KF-16 battalion and its pilot training.  General Lee has a strong policy and strategy background from various policy-related positions in the ROK Air Force Headquarters, ROK Ministry of National Defense, and ROK Joint Chiefs of Staff.  As Principal of the ROK Air Force Academy, he introduced the PBL (Project Based Learning) education method into the curriculum, enabling significant improvements.

이건완 중장은 대한민국 공군작전사령부에서 재직하는 동안 한미동맹 강화에 각종 연합 교류행사 및 경험, 그리고 협력을 통해 크게 기여했습니다. 30년이 넘는 군생활동안 전투기 조종사로서 다양한 항공무기체계를 운용했으며 KF-16 전투비행대대의 최초 설립과 해당 기체의 조종사 훈련을 확립하는데 핵심적인 역할을 수행했습니다. 이건완 중장은 대한민국 공군본부, 국방부와 합참본부의 다양한 정책관련직위를 맡은 경험을 통해 국가정책전략의 기틀을 닦았습니다. 또한, 대한민국 공군사관학교의 교장으로서 교육과정에 프로젝트 기반학습법을 도입했으며, 중대한 개선사항들을 이끌어 냈습니다.

Maj. Gen. Pyo in his final assignment served as the ROK Defense Attaché to the USA and helped coordinate defense actions between the two strong allies. General Pyo is a very experienced Alliance leader having worked many years on ROK and U.S. topics in the ROK Joint Chiefs of Staff, Combined Forces Command, and ROK Embassy in Washington, DC.  After retiring from the ROK Army, he served on ROK President Yoon’s transition team.  He is one of the first Korea Military Academy cadets to graduate from the U.S. Military Academy.  He and his wife have two sons.

표세우 소장은 주미대한민국대사관의 국방무관으로서 마지막 임무를 수행하셨으며 굳건한 한미동맹을 위한 국방정책들을 조율했습니다. 표세우 소장은 한국 합참본부, 한미연합사령부, 워싱턴DC의 주미 한국 대사관에서 양국에 관련된 주제들을 다룬 경험을 갖춘 유능한 지휘관입니다. 대한민국 육군에서 전역한 이후 표 소장은 대한민국 윤석열 대통령 인수위원회에서도 활동했습니다. 또한, 대한민국 육군사관학교의 생도로서 최초로 미 육군 사관학교를 졸업했습니다. 소장님과 사모님께서는 슬하에 두명의 자녀를 두고 있습니다.

KDVA Chairman and President, Gen. (Ret.) Vincent K. Brooks, commented on the changes to the Board saying, “KDVA continues to grow rapidly and as we enter our sixth year, it is time to refresh the Board of Directors as well.  The additions of Generals Abrams, Lee, and Pyo will bring fresh perspectives to guide us to the next level of supporting those Veterans of both countries who served shoulder-to-shoulder in defending the Republic of Korea and forging the ROK-U.S. Alliance.”

주한미군 전우회 이사장 및 회장이신 빈센트 K. 브룩스 대장(예)은 “주한미군 전우회가 매우 빠른 성장을 거듭하고 있으며, 설립 6년차로 접어들면서 이사회 또한 재편성할 시기라고 판단했다”고 언급했습니다. 에이브럼스 대장, 이건완 중장, 표세우 소장의 합류를 통해 주한미군 전우회가 어깨를 맞대고 대한민국 수호와 한미동맹 강화를 위해 헌신한 한미양국의 재향군인들을 지원하기 위한 다음단계로 나아가는데 있어서, 새로운 비전을 제공할 것이라 믿습니다.

“I am grateful for this opportunity to continue serving the ROK-U.S. Alliance and our Veterans,” said Gen. (Ret.) Robert “Abe” Abrams. “KDVA has a noble mission to recognize the contributions of all Veterans who served in Korea … because it is their service that changed history for the Korean people and made America a better country.  I am looking forward to helping KDVA reach and harness the power of the millions of American and Korean Veterans who served in Korea.”

로버트 “에이브” 에이브럼스 대장(예)은 “한미동맹과 양국의 재향군인들을 위해 지속적으로 근무할 기회를 얻게되어 매우 감사하다”고 소감을 밝히셨습니다. 또한 에이브럼스 대장은 “주한미군 전우회는 대한민국에서 복무했던 모든 주한미군 제대군인들의 헌신을 기리기 위한 숭고한 사명을 가지고 있습니다…  이들로 인해 대한민국 국민들의 역사가 바뀌었으며 미국이 더 발전된 국가로 거듭나는 변화가 이루어졌기 때문입니다. 대한민국에서 복무했던 한미 양국의 수백만 재향군인들에게 다가가며 그들의 힘을 결속하는데 조력하도록 하겠습니다.”라고 언급했습니다.

Lt. Gen. Lee, Keun Wan said, “I want to thank General Brooks and the KDVA Board of Directors for their warm welcome.  I’ve always respected General Brooks and KDVA for their commitment to the development of Korea’s defense and the ROK-U.S. Alliance.  I am honored to participate in the valuable work together in working with good friends for the strengthening of the ROK-U.S. Alliance and supporting our Veterans in Korea and the United States.”

이근완 중장은“Brooks 장군과 KDVA 이사회의 따뜻한 환영에 감사드립니다. 저는 항상 Brooks 장군과 KDVA가 한국의 국방과 한미동맹의 발전을 위해 헌신한 것을 항상 존경해왔습니다. 한미동맹 강화와 한국과 미국의 참전용사들을 지원하기 위해 좋은 동료들과 함께 일할 수 있는 귀중한 일에 참여하게 되어 영광입니다” 라고 말했다.

Maj. Gen. Pyo stated, “It will be my great honor to continue serving the ROK-U.S. Alliance, even after retirement, as a KDVA Board member. I believe that there is nothing better than honoring and supporting those who served and are serving the ROK-U.S. Alliance that has laid an irreplaceable foundation for the peace and prosperity of our great nations. It is my lifetime mission! I am looking forward to working closely with Korean and American colleagues and friends to pursue the mission of the KDVA, ‘Together for the ROK-US Alliance’.”

표세우 소장은 “전역 이후에도 주한미군 전우회의 이사회 임원으로서 한미동맹을 위해 계속 일할 수 있게 되어 영광입니다. 한미동맹을 위해 헌신했던 주한미군 제대군인들을 기억하고 지원하는 것보다 중요한 일은 없다고 생각합니다. 한미동맹은 위대한 국민들의 번영과 평화를 위해 대체할 수 없는 기반과도 같습니다. 이러한 한미동맹을 지원하는 것은 저의 필생의 과업입니다. 주한미군전우회의 사명을 위해 한국과 미국의 동료 임원진 및 친분있는 이들과 긴밀히 협력할 것을 기대합니다.”라고 말했습니다.
