Welcome KDVA 2021 – 2022 Interns!
KDVA IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE OUR 2021 – 2022 INTERNS!
The KDVA Interns will have opportunities to learn more about the ROK-U.S. Alliance and its diverse topics, gain invaluable professional experience, develop skills, make professional contacts, and make contributions to the ROK-U.S. Alliance. They will be involved in diverse research and activity projects to include:
- Researching ROK-U.S. Alliance topics.
- Writing Alliance articles for the KDVA quarterly journal, webpage, newsletter, Facebook, and Twitter.
- Serving as Research Assistants to team with a senior KDVA leader and write articles for KDVA platforms, news articles, and think tank publications.
- Collaborating with academic institutions and young professional organizations to research joint projects.
- Supporting events in Seoul and DC.
- Supporting social media efforts.
We look forward to their efforts “Together for the ROK-U.S. Alliance.”

KDVA’s Call for Virtual Common Interest Groups
KDVA called for KDVA Local Chapters in the United States in August, and we are very thankful to have several volunteers. Now, KDVA announces virtual Common Interest Groups.
Common Interest Groups (CIG) are virtual and bonded by a common interest. For example, KDVA members could form CIGs for a KDVA-DMZ Group, KDVA-1970s Decade Group, KDVA-current and former 7AF Group, KDVA-CFC C3 Group, etc.
Members can join only one Local Chapter at a time and more than one Common Interest Group.
If interested, 1) please join KDVA and 2) respond to the questions on our Virtual Common Interest Group Form.
주한미군전우회는 8월 미국 내 지부 설립을 위한 자원을 요청했고, 여러 자원자를 받았습니다. 주한미군전우회는 이제 온라인 동호회(CIG) 개설을 계획하고 있습니다.
CIG(동호회, Common Interest Groups)는 온라인으로 진행되며, 공동의 관심사를 토대로 구성원을 모집합니다. 예를 들어, 주한미군전우회 회원들은 주한미군전우회-DMZ 모임, 주한미군전우회-1970년대 모임, 주한미군전우회-미7공군 전현직 모임, 주한미군전우회-연합사 작참부(C3) 모임 등의 동호회를 개설할 수 있을 겁니다.
주한미군전우회 회원들은 1개 지부에만 가입할 수 있으나, 동호회(CIG)에는 원하시는 만큼 가입하실 수 있습니다.

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen, I am General Vincent K. Brooks, U.S. Army retired, a former commander of U.S. and South Korean forces on the Korean Peninsula. I am also the Chairman and President of the Korea Defense Veterans Association, also known by the name KDVA, which is an association that serves to strengthen and support the U.S.-Republic of Korea, or ROK, Alliance and to support the Veterans, both American and Korean, who built and served this unique Alliance from 1950 to the present day.
여러분 안녕하십니까, 저는 빈센트 브룩스 전 주한미군사/유엔사/연합사 사령관입니다. 현재는 KDVA주한미군전우회라는 단체의 회장 겸 이사장 직무를 맡고 있습니다. 주한미군전우회는 한미동맹 지원 그리고 1950년부터 현재까지 함께 어깨를 나란히 하며 한미동맹을 세우고 이를 위해 헌신한 한미 참전용사 및 예비역 장병들에 대한 지원활동을 하고 있습니다.
Let me tell you about a new national day of remembrance, “U.S.-ROK Alliance Day.” This day of remembrance is intended to bring attention to the Alliance and the Veterans who served it and to draw together Americans and Koreans based on our shared values and experiences.
새로운 기념일로 한미 동맹의 날이 지정되었다는 소식을 전합니다. 한미 동맹의 날은 한미동맹과 한미동맹을 위해 헌신한 참전용사들 및 예비역 장병들을 기억하고, 공동의 가치와 경험을 통한 한국과 미국의 국민들의 단합을 이끌어내기 위한 기념일입니다.
“U.S.-ROK Alliance Day” will be observed on October 1st, each year, which marks the annual anniversary of the signing of the Mutual Defense Treaty between the United States and Republic of Korea on October 1, 1953, which sought a lasting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. The Mutual Defense Treaty has become far more than a treaty document between two governments; rather it is the bridge that has enabled significant people-to-people connections, economic connections, and cultural overlaps between generations of Americans and South Koreans.
한미동맹의 날은 한반도의 영구적인 평화와 안정을 도모한 한미 상호 방위조약이 맺어진 1953년 10월 1일을 기념해 매년 10월 1일로 지정되었습니다. 한미 상호방위조약은 양국 정부간의 조약문서의 의미를 넘어, 양국 국민들이 서로간의 인적교류와 경제관계를 구축하고, 양국간의 문화 공유가 이루어지게끔 가교역할을 해주었습니다.
KDVA is honored to have sponsored the registering of “U.S.-ROK Alliance Day” with the National Day Archives. And we at KDVA would ask that Americans and Koreans alike, especially our association members, our donors, partner organizations, social media followers, and supporters to commemorate this important date each year by holding events, sending supportive messages about the Alliance, supporting and honoring the Veterans of the Alliance, and sharing stories about this day of recognition to your families and friends.
저희 주한미군전우회가 미국 국립문서보관소 에 한미동맹의 날을 공식 기록하는 사업을 지원하게 되어 영광입니다. 주한미군전우회는 한국 사람들과 미국 사람들 모두, 특히 우리 회원분들, 후원자분들, 협력단체들, SNS 팔로워들, 그리고 지지자분들께서 매년 10월1일이 되면 행사 개최, 한미동맹에 대한 응원 메시지 보내기, 한미 참전용사 및 예비역 장병들에 대한 지원 및 예우, 그리고 가족과 친구들에게 한미동맹의 날에 대해 알려주고 전파함으로써 함께 기념해주시길 요청드립니다.
