KDVA Welcomes New KDVA Membership Coordinator

KDVA Welcomes New KDVA Membership Coordinator

January 24, 2024

Please join the Korea Defense Veterans Association (KDVA) in welcoming our new Membership Coordinator, Mr. Kevin L. Miller.

“With the continued growth of KDVA membership, we needed to bring on a person who could help us better support our current members and find ways to further grow KDVA,” said KDVA Chairman and President, General (Ret.) Curtis Scaparrotti.  “Kevin Miller has been a great KDVA supporter for several years, and we are thankful that he has joined our team.  We are looking forward to Kevin’s ideas for reaching the 5.1 million Americans who have served in Korea and the millions of Koreans they served with over the past seven decades.  KDVA’s growth in reaching our 1st 10,000 members in 2023 was a significant milestone, but we have so much work ahead of us, including opening two to three more KDVA local chapters in the United States in 2024.  Kevin is the right leader, right Veteran, and right person to help us get there.”

Kevin L. Miller said, “I am honored and excited to join the KDVA Headquarters Staff in the position of Membership Coordinator.  My service on the DMZ over three decades ago introduced me to the importance of the ROK-U.S. Alliance and the vital role both nations have played in providing security on the peninsula.  I look forward to supporting our existing members and increasing our overall membership as we come together to share our experiences, participate in KDVA programs, and continue our service in support of the Alliance.”

Mr. Kevin L. Miller served in the Republic of Korea with 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry at Camp Greaves.  Additional assignments included Fort Polk, LA and with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC.  He has served as President and Chairman of the Georgia Veterans Day Association since 2010.  Kevin was selected to participate in the KDVA Revisit Korea Program in 2021 and has served as the President of the KDVA Georgia Chapter since 2022.

KDVA and KUSAF’s Record Year in 2023!

KDVA and KUSAF’s Record Year in 2023!

Thanks to our incredible donors, members, and supporters, the Korea-US Alliance Foundation (KUSAF) and Korea Defense Veterans Association (KDVA) had a record year of growth and outreach in 2023!

The great partnership between KDVA and KUSAF demonstrated our influence during the ROK State Visit in April 2023 by co-hosting the Korea Veterans Luncheon for ROK President Yoon with Veterans who served in Korea. The two close partners co-hosted several webinars and conferences that were highlighted by the Alliance & Veterans Conferences (AVC) in Atlanta and Seoul in October 2023. KUSAF and KDVA conducted the Korea Revisit Program for 100 Korea Defense Veterans and their companions. We deeply appreciate the support of the ROK Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (MPVA) for sponsoring all these significant events.

KUSAF led several initiatives during the 70th year of the ROK-U.S. Alliance including the Col William Weber and Gen. John Singlaub Memorial Unveiling Ceremony, announcing the design of a memorial honoring U.S. Soldiers who were killed by North Korean attacks since the Armistice Agreement in 1953, and publishing the book, 70 for 70, that includes interesting stories from Americans and Koreans who built and support the ROK-U.S. Alliance.

KDVA had our biggest growth by topping our first 10,000 members and almost 80,000 social media followers. KDVA conducted multi-generational programs including the annual General Paik Sun-yup Webinar, the KDVA Internship Program, and the new KDVA Impact Scholarship Program. KDVA also worked closely with the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command (CFC) for the new “CFC Senior Enlisted Advisors Forum.” KDVA is thankful for our 31 partners in four countries (on four continents) who meet quarterly in the new KDVA Networking Forum to provide mutual support for Korea programs and activities. KDVA’s chapters in Korea, Hawaii, and Georgia as well as our 22 virtual Common Interest Groups connect Veterans and their supporters – please join us for free at kdva.vet.

As we look to the New Year in 2024, KUSAF and KDVA are thankful for every donor, member, and supporter that enable our efforts for the Alliance and our Veterans. KDVA will open two to three new local chapters and several KDVA Campus Clubs in Korea and the United States. KUSAF will lead the effort for a new USFK Memorial in Seoul. Please help us reach the millions of Americans and Koreans who have and are serving the ROK-U.S. Alliance – we are stronger and better together!

“Together for the ROK-U.S. Alliance”

We are very thankful for the leadership of Command Sergeant Major of UNC/CFC/USFK, CSM Jack Love, in attending and supporting this special event.

2023 U.S. Veterans Day:  Veterans Built the ROK-U.S. Alliance

November 11, 2023

2023 U.S. Veterans Day:  Veterans Built the ROK-U.S. Alliance

Americans across the United States have set aside November 11th each year for Veterans Day to remember and honor our Veterans who served around the world to protect the American way of life.  The freedoms, rights, and privileges we enjoy were earned by Veterans on battlefields on American soil and foreign shores.  Families of Veterans spent many nights worried about the dangers that loved ones faced and endured the heartache of separation.  These sacrifices were for noble causes that answered their Nation’s call to serve and to do their parts (and more) for all Americans.

For our Veterans who served in Korea, there is added meaning to serving on a foreign land … Korea Veterans proudly say that their service in Korea was worth it because Korea has risen to be one of the great countries in the world and one of America’s most important allies … only 70 years after the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement in 1953.  This is the sentiment shared by 100 Korea Defense Veterans and their companions who participated in KDVA’s Korea Revisit on October 10-15, 2023.  These participants were very thankful that the ROK Government and Korean people remembered and honored them.  They have returned to their hometowns as energized ambassadors for the ROK-U.S. Alliance.  KDVA is proud to select these KDVA members for this amazing program each year.

American Veterans have served with their Korean allies in Korea for over 73 years and on deployments to Vietnam and the Middle East.  Together, they have been a force for good that has made a significant difference.

KDVA and the Korea-US Alliance Foundation (KUSAF) salute and sincerely thank over 1.8 million American Veterans who fought in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953, and over 3.3 million American Veterans who defended, and continue to defend, South Korea and American interests since 1953. Together, “We Are the Alliance”!

As we remember our Veterans and their Families on U.S. Veterans Day, please use this day to support and thank Veterans in your communities.  You might also consider visiting a memorial dedicated to Korean War Veterans by using this KDVA link, https://kdva.vet/korean-war-memorials/. Please consider joining KDVA and be part of KDVA’s 1st 10,000 members (we are over 9,400 and counting), https://kdva.vet/join-kdva/.

KDVA Congratulates the U.S. 7th Air Force’s Founding on November 1, 1940

November 1, 2023

The Korea Defense Veterans Association congratulates the men and women of the U.S. 7th Air Force on the 83rd anniversary of its activation on November 1, 1940 — the U.S. Air Force’s oldest numbered air force. Today, 7th Air Force is headquartered in Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea under the leadership of Lt. Gen. Scott L. Pleus and Chief Master Sergeant Jeremiah W. Ross.

Since its establishment as the Hawaiian Air Force and redesignation as the 7th Air Force after the start of World War II, its airmen fought throughout the Central Pacific and remained in the Pacific until being deactivated after the Korean War. In 1966, 7AF was reactivated and headquartered in Vietnam and deactivated again after the war.

7AF deployed to Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea in 1986 and became a part of U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) and the U.S. Air Force component to the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command’s Air Component Command. (https://www.7af.pacaf.af.mil/)

KDVA is very proud that so many of our members have served in the 7th Air Force in Korea. 7AF’s partnership with the ROK Air Force continues to be a great example of combined airpower. They have been a major part of the combat power and deterrence against North Korea for almost four decades, and KDVA looks forward to working “Together for the ROK-U.S. Alliance”!

Annual “U.S.-ROK Alliance Day” on October 1, 2023

As Americans and Koreans celebrate their 70th anniversary of the great ROK-U.S. Alliance in 2023, the Korea Defense Veterans Association and Korea-US Alliance Foundation ask all our members, donors, sponsors, and partners to support the annual “U.S.-ROK Alliance Day” on October 1st.

KDVA registered this day to honor and remember October 1st as the signing of the 1953 ROK- U.S. Mutual Defense Treaty, in which the two allies stated that they are “reaffirming their desire to live in peace with all peoples and governments, and desiring to strengthen the fabric of peace in the Pacific area, desiring to declare publicly and formally their common determination to defend themselves against external armed attack so that no potential aggressor could be under the illusion that either of them stands alone in the Pacific area …” In 2023, the Alliance has taken historic steps with the ROK State Visit in April and the ROK-U.S.-Japan Trilateral Leaders’ Summit in August which substantively built upon the strong foundation of the Alliance and made the allies more connected for regional cooperation and defense against the North Korean threat.

Building on stronger and more meaningful bonds is at the heart of what makes the ROK-U.S. Alliance unbreakable and strong. For 70 years, Korean War Veterans and Korea Defense Veterans have served as the living embodiment of the sacrifice and contributions that have made American and Korean lives better. Over 1.8 million Americans served in the Korean War and an additional 3.3 million Americans have served in Korea since the Korean Armistice Agreement on July 27, 1953. Each of these 5.1 million Americans did their duty and some gave their all for the Alliance.

As supporters of the Alliance and our Veterans, KDVA and KUSAF hope that all Americans and Koreans will look upon this day on October 1st each year with a renewed sense of purpose and resolve that “Freedom Is Not Free.” KUSAF is working to make October 1st being recognized as U.S.-ROK Alliance Day in the Republic of Korea.

KUSAF and KDVA Welcome the ROK-U.S.-Japan Summit

August 16, 2023

KUSAF (Korea-US Alliance Foundation) and KDVA (Korea Defense Veterans Association) Welcome the ROK-U.S.-Japan Summit

KUSAF and KDVA welcome and support the historic trilateral summit between ROK President Yun Suk-yeol, U.S. President Joe Biden, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to be held on August 18 at Camp David, Maryland, USA.

The trilateral summit is a result of the trust built through the ROK-U.S.-Japan summit in Cambodia last November, the ROK-Japan summit in March and May this year, and the ROK-U.S. summit in April, and will be a historic milestone in ensuring the security and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia in a rapidly changing global environment.

By hosting the trilateral summit at the U.S. President’s country residence for the first time, we are confident that it will further strengthen the personal and national trust of the three countries, as well as the shared values of liberal democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

KUSAF and KDVA hope that the summit will demonstrate a new vision for security and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula, Northeast Asia, and the world by deterring North Korea’s nuclear and missile provocations, exploring ways to denuclearize North Korea, and building a free and open Indo-Pacific. We also reiterate that Russia’s aggression in Ukraine is a challenge to liberal democracy and international peace, and look forward to progressive action by the three countries.

KUSAF and KDVA once again welcome the trilateral summit as a new starting point for security cooperation between the ROK, U.S., and Japan, and will support efforts to spread the solidarity of security and peace around the world as well as the Indo-Pacific Region.
