General Brooks will talk with the KDVA interns about the current state of the ROK-U.S. Alliance and U.S. security and military topics.
Then the interns will talk about the KDVA Internship Program (KIP) and take your questions about KIP.

KDVA’s DMZ Webinar Series Continues with “Commemorating the Axe Murder Incident and Beyond”

KDVA would like to present a webinar about the dangers and engagements in the DMZ with the family of Capt. Arthur Bonifas and former Joint Security Area (JSA) Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Sean Morrow.
Since the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement on July 27, 1953, the Joint Security Area has served as a place for the two sides to meet to communicate and work out disputes. Over the decades, the JSA has been an area of engagement and danger for U.S. and ROK Soldiers. Please join us to hear about the Arthur Bonifas story and how the DMZ has changed since that terrible day on August 18, 1976.
KDVA is very excited to announce the official registration for the 1st KDVA Reunion on 26-28 July 2022 in Washington, DC. The KDVA Reunion is intended to bring together KDVA members to better support the Alliance and Veterans – members will be better informed and better prepared to carry out KDVA’s mission.
KDVA is very thankful to our sponsor, the ROK Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (MPVA), and our partner, the Korea-US Alliance Foundation (KUSAF), for supporting the KDVA Reunion. MPVA is funding all activities at the conference – KDVA members will also receive a $300 reimbursement for travel and lodging.

Korean War Veterans Memorial Wall of Remembrance Dedication Ceremony
On July 27, 2022 Wall of Remembrance will become the permanent home to the names of over 36,000 American servicemen and 7,100 Korean Augmentation to the United States Army (KATUSA) who gave their lives defending the people of South Korea.
Twilight Tattoo Concert
One of the U.S. Army’s time-honored traditions, Twilight Tattoo, will return to in-person performances for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic weather permitting. This is a special event for Korea Veterans.

Furthermore, in the unlikely case of a reprisal of the Korean War, the UNC would, once again, serve as a multinational headquarters to coordinate additional forces deploying to the Korean Peninsula. Seven designated bases located in Japan, are ready to support such deployments, through the UNC rear headquarters. With ongoing discussions on an “End of War” declaration and the transition of wartime operational control to the South Korean government (OPCON) this could affect the discussion around the future role of the UNC.
Recently, the DPRK UN representative called for the termination of the UNC, indicating UNC also plays a role in the diplomatic development on the Peninsula.
So, even today, 68 years later, is UNC still a relevant actor in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and supporting inter-Korean dialogue?
To learn more about this and to better understand to complexity and uniqueness of the Armistice Agreement, the role of the UNC and possible consequences of an “End of War” declaration, we are delighted to have three eminent experts joining us.
