General (Retired) Choi, Byung-Hyuk is currently the President of the Korea Defense Veterans Association Korea Chapter. He honorably retired from the ROK military in September 2020, after serving as the Deputy Commander of ROK-US Combined Forces Command.
General(R) Choi graduated from the Korea Military Academy in 1985. His notable command assignments include the company commander, the battalion commander and the regiment commander in the ROK Division, Commander of ROK 22nd Division in 2014~2016, Commander of 5th Corps in 2017~2018. After he was promoted to four-star general, he went on to serve as the Deputy Commander of ROK-US Combined Forces Command.
In addition to his command assignments, General(R) Choi served in many critical staff positions including Chief of Operations at Third ROK Army, Inspector General at ROK Army HQ, and Vice Chief of Staff at ROK Army HQ
General(R) Choi holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Korea Military Academy; a Master’s degree of Strategy from U.S. Army War College; PhD course in International Politics from Kyungnam University; Advanced Leaders Program for National Future Security & Strategy from Seoul National University; Advanced Future Information Technology course from Hannam University. His decorations include ROK Order of National Security Merit Tongil/Gukseon Medal, Presidential citatation and Secretary of Defense’s commendation Medal and a US Legion of Merit, US Meritorious Service Medal.
GEN(R) Choi is married to Mrs. Lee, Hye-young, and they have three children, Yoon-kyung, Yoon-ah and and Jun-yeal.
