Doug retired as an US Army Colonel and has over 30 years of operational and business experience in defense and security areas. Doug founded GarryOwen LLC in 2014, providing expert business development and subject matter expert support to commercial companies engaged in the defense sector. As a senior defense consultant his current focus is expanding US defense and related opportunities for a broad spectrum of clients providing advanced material solutions to the US military. He has demonstrated leadership success in delivering strategic solutions and organizational change in complex organizations, motivating large, diverse work forces under adverse conditions

In October 2010, the DuPont Company selected him to lead the development and growth of the Army protection technology business and then as the Director for Army and DOD Programs with the objective to double overall defense business in five years. This was based on his senior level leadership and management experience across the full spectrum of mission including Homeland Security; Strategic Decision Support/Operations Analysis; Lessons Learned; Coalition/Joint Operations; Operations and Strategy; broad planning and operational experience.

Previously, Doug worked at BAE Systems a government systems integrator focused on DOD business, as a Business Development executive for DoD ground platform (US Army/US Marine Corps) C4I integration. He developed a new, coordinated platform integration strategy focused on the Army Brigade Combat Team modernization efforts with program value of $800 million across the program life time. He contributed significantly to revitalizing cross domain and cross business area relationships in order to develop future opportunities.

Prior to joining BAE Systems, Doug served as a national security and defense consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. From 1982 to 2006, Doug served in the US Army, retiring from the Joint Staff and duty at the White House as a Colonel.

He holds a Master of Science from the National Defense University; a Master of Military Art and Science from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, School of Advanced Military Studies; a Master of Arts from Webster University; and he is a 1982 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science degree.
